Yorkshire Based Bespoke Software Development Case Study - Countrywide Surveyors - Client Machine Management System
Brief
Most of the chartered surveyors who were employees of our client worked primarily
from home. Due to ever changing legistlation and other problems with client machine
maintenance our customer commissioned the development of an enterprise level application
which allows the maintenance of remote clients.
Other than asset management, the purpose of the software is three fold:
- To keep software and files up to date on the client machine.
- To backup the client with a central server.
- To perform maintenance tasks such as disk defragmentation on the client machine
on schedule.
GotFocus Solutions delivered the following from our Yorkshire based development team
Windows Client Application
The system operates a central service using a star network topology. Backup, installation
and maintenance tasks are performed using a windows application installed on the
client.
Administrator Website
The administrator website allows deployment tasks to be created and also reports
on task status
The website provides administrator functionality to allow restoration to be performed
to any tablet PC in the country using a few simple clicks.
Technology
Downloads are controlled using Microsoft Background Intelligent Transfer Services
(BITS).
Central control and asset management is performed using a combination of Microsoft
Communication Foundation, Windows Services and Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
