Brief

Most of the chartered surveyors who were employees of our client worked primarily from home. Due to ever changing legistlation and other problems with client machine maintenance our customer commissioned the development of an enterprise level application which allows the maintenance of remote clients.

Other than asset management, the purpose of the software is three fold:

  • To keep software and files up to date on the client machine.
  • To backup the client with a central server.
  • To perform maintenance tasks such as disk defragmentation on the client machine on schedule.

Windows Client Application

A tablet PC

The system operates a central service using a star network topology. Backup, installation and maintenance tasks are performed using a windows application installed on the client.

Administrator Website

A bar chart

The administrator website allows deployment tasks to be created and also reports on task status

The website provides administrator functionality to allow restoration to be performed to any tablet PC in the country using a few simple clicks.

Technology

Microsoft Logos

Downloads are controlled using Microsoft Background Intelligent Transfer Services (BITS).

Central control and asset management is performed using a combination of Microsoft Communication Foundation, Windows Services and Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
